3-Day Sahara Desert Trek Itinerary
- Departure from Ouarzazate, the gateway to Morocco’s mystical landscapes. The journey begins along a scenic road crossing the Jebel Saghro massif, rising to 1,660 meters, offering striking panoramas over the vast rocky desert. The road unfolds before you as you continue your odyssey, following the contours of the Draa Valley.
- The landscape gradually transforms, revealing lush palm groves, picturesque oases, and numerous ksour and kasbahs, forming an enchanting tableau of natural beauty. Each bend in the road brings you a little closer to the fascinating town of Zagora.
- We will take a break at Ksar Tamgroute, renowned for its historical importance, particularly its ancient koranic school (madrasa), which we will visit if it is open. Tamgroute is also famous for its traditional pottery craftsmanship and its distinctive green glaze.
- The road then continues for about an hour to the starting point of our expedition, in the heart of the Tagounite palm grove. We will set off on a walk through the palm grove and visit the ksar and the village of Sidi Salah, before heading toward the dunes leading to our bivouac, set up among the dunes.

- Walking time: approximately 2 to 3 hours
- We will begin the day with a short optional ascent to Mount Tidri, offering splendid views over the Draa Valley and its surroundings. Along the way, we will pass near ancient tumuli, the last traces of human occupation in this region.
- After crossing a vast plateau known as a reg, dotted with a few tamarisk trees, we will reach the dunes of Erg Sahel.
- We will cross this majestic dune massif to our bivouac, set up among the dunes. Lunch will be served on site.
- In the afternoon, you will enjoy free time for a walk in the heart of the dunes.
- Walking time: approximately 4 hours 30 minutes to 5 hours
- We will start the day with a beautiful walk in the dunes, bathed in soft, pleasant light.
- We will then continue our caravan across varied terrain, alternating between dunes and vast expanses dotted with acacia and tamarisk trees.
- We will reach the dunes of Lahniti, which we will cross until the bed of the Draa River, where we will meet our team for a lunch break.
- In the afternoon, we will begin the return journey to Ouarzazate.
